What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapists work with people of all ages, helping them to carry out the activities that they need or want to do in order to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Occupational therapists (OTs) work to break down the barriers which hold back individuals in carrying out their day to day activities. When someone is struggling with their mental health, their whole lives can be impacted. The skill of OTs are to treat an individual not as a ‘symptom’ but as a whole person, identifying strengths, difficulties and what it is each person needs and wants to change. Using a range of techniques from psychological evidence based theory, OTs apply therapeutic techniques in order to create meaningful change and improvement in daily living.
